MCHS Director of Bands Jeffrey O. Rowser has been honored by the Auburn University College of Education with its 2018 Outstanding Educator Award. This prestigious award was established by the College to recognize graduates who make outstanding contributions to the field of education as practitioners directly engaged with students.
During Mr. Rowser’s nearly four decades of service as a dynamic educator, he has received a multitude of esteemed accolades and awards, including being named 2014-15 Morgan County Schools “Teacher of the Year” and 2013-14 “Georgia Music Educator of the Year.”
Mr. Rowser, a native of Attalla, Alabama, graduated from Auburn University with his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music Education. While at Auburn, he was drum major of the Auburn University Marching Band for three years. His appointment by Dr. Bill Walls made Mr. Rowser the first African American Drum Major at Auburn University and in the Southeastern Conference.
On April 19, 2018, Mr. Rowser will attend the Auburn University College of Education Awards Luncheon where he will be honored for receiving the 2018 Outstanding Educator Award.
